Memories of A Sunnier Fall On The North Fork

There were snow flurries at the weekend on the East End of Long Island. So, a good time, I think, to recall some of the sunnier Fall days on the North Fork, the main setting for my new thriller, Fool Her Once.

That’s when North Fork farm stands were ablaze with the color of ‘mums and pumpkins.

The photo below was taken at Hallock’s Cider Mill where the principal male character in my novel, Zack King, chef and innkeeper, buys the homemade orange marmalade for his coriander lime shrimp marinade.

Sometimes Sunny –But Breezy

It was a treat to duck out of the breeze blowing in off Peconic Bay — and  into Legends restaurant in New Suffolk, another North Fork location in Fool Her Once.

It’s where a character, whom my female protagonist, Jenna Sinclair is interviewing, orders a cheesy, gooey, yummy quesadilla– like I did on a beautiful, sunny, but breezy day on the North Fork.

Blue Skies and Changing Colors

And, note the gorgeous blue sky over a North Fork marina (below) like the one Zack King owns in Fool Her Once.

The South Fork was looking good, too, with trees changing color near Peconic Bay.

Then, Came The Tides & The Rain

Dune Road on the South Fork in Hampton Bays was almost impassable.

But we struggled through to get to Sunday’s, a fave restaurant and a key location in FHO.

Well, you gotta eat!!!!

Hunker Down For Winter

And then, it was time to burlap the Leyland Cypresses in the front yard. Don’t believe anyone who tells you Leylands are deer-resistant. They’re not.

Deer will eat anything if they’re hungry enough — as we found out one bad winter when they chewed off and killed the lower branches on many of our driveway Leylands!

And if you’re looking to pre-order a copy of Fool Her Once, you can do it here (directly from my publisher –which is great for me because I get a larger royalty) or here from Amazon.
