I Have No Words Today

I have no words today –and that includes the words “happy” and “fourth.”

Instead, I’m going to borrow some words from a couple of my favorite journalists writing for theguardian.com about the events of the past couple of weeks.

Hamilton Nolan was writing after six Supreme Court justices struck down the New York law restricting the right to carry a handgun outside your home. He called the group “elitist fringe lunatics installed in power by the exact opposite of democratic will, accountable only to an imaginary god who instructs them to scrap basic gun control laws in the wake of horrific mass shootings of children while calling itself pro-life.” Continue reading “I Have No Words Today”

Why I Did Not Celebrate Mother’s Day This Year

 I glanced through my Mother’s Day photo album, last week, in anticipation of  blogging about the Mother’s Days I’ve celebrated over the last couple of decades.  I thought such a walk down memory lane would provide some solace after the one I had to take a couple of weeks ago when I lost my brother, Michael.

R. I. P. My Brother, Michael 1951-2022

In the acknowledgments to my new thriller, Fool Her Once, I write this about my brother, Michael: He was “the first reader of my first draft and went through my manuscript with an editor’s insight and with an astounding eye for detail.” It’s an acknowledgment he probably didn’t get to see.

The hardcover copy of the book arrived at his home on Thursday April 14th. Just four days later, he passed away in a hospital in Prague, in the Czech Republic at the age of 70. Continue reading “R. I. P. My Brother, Michael 1951-2022”

Fool Her Once Update As Mother Nature Takes Over

When Mother Nature takes over, it’s usually best to stop what you’re doing — and hope she doesn’t cause too much damage.

Everything came to a standstill on the East End of Long Island this weekend when howling winds and a 12-hour blizzard caused snowdrifts of more than 24-inches in certain locations.
