Midsummer Dream — Or Nightmare?

We’re at the midpoint of the Summer. Only six more weeks. And then the crowds will be gone. For the moment they’re here.

Flocking to the golden ocean beaches.

And, to the inlets and bays. Temperatures reached 100 degrees in New York City this week. It was a little cooler out on the East End of Long Island.

Pleasant enough to do a little research for my novel as to how the locks work on Shinnecock Canal in Hampton Bays. I feel there’s more potential for disaster going through the locks than on the Bays.

And, just about cool enough  to enjoy a new bestseller over a Cobb salad and a glass of wine on the sidewalk outside 75 Main restaurant in Southampton.

After a signing by its bestselling author Cate Holahan at Berry & Co. bookshop in Sag Harbor.

And, later catching the breeze between Ocean and Bay on the deck at Sundays in Hampton Bays.

Or a chocolate fondante (with creme anglaise and cappuccino ice cream)  at Bobby Van’s in Bridgehampton. We shared , and I had the fruit. Joe had the chocolate and ice cream (just kidding!)

I can get all the fruit I need at home.

And enjoy looking at the fully bloomed hibiscus while I’m at it.

    1. It was to die for! I always choose Cobb salad in a restaurant because it takes so long to make all the ingredients and to chop up everything at home. The book was good also!! One Little Secret is set in the Hamptons so it was a fitting read!!!!

  1. You shoulda called me when you came to Sag. I woulda joined you for the book signing. (Or maybe, even better, for that dessert!!)

    1. Next time I promise I will!! As for dessert? Only if you agree to eat most of it. That’s the deal I have with Joe. I will have a spoonful of all that gorgeous-looking stuff, but someone else has to finish it off.

  2. Although the weather has been oppressive, you make it sound like a pleasant breeze.

Looks like you had a lovely week in the Hamptons.
