Why I’m Waiting For That Last Episode of The Staircase

I just don’t know. Don’t know, at all, what to believe about whodunit in The Staircase murder/death/killing. We have one more episode to go in the HBOMax Tv Series, The Staircase. And, I’m not sticking my neck out to make a final decision until I’ve seen that episode.

I know what I thought after viewing the 2018 Netflix, 13-episode docu-series about the death of Kathleen Peterson and the trial of her husband Michael Peterson after she was found dead at the bottom of a staircase in their North Carolina mansion. It seemed like everyone in the country had an opinion about Peterson and whether he’d killed his wife.

I blogged about it here and here. I came up with some theories as to what kind of a personality (charmer or psychopath?) Michael Peterson just might be. Back then, I was more inclined to think badly of him.

Now, I’m not too sure.

A Change of Mind ?

No. It’s not because he’s being played by Colin Firth in the HBOMax TV series. I am curious as to how the series will conclude. I’m inclined to think it has to come down on one side or the other.

However, much more significant is the book Michael Peterson penned after serving eight years of his sentence. It’s titled Behind the Staircase. Peterson self-published it. It’s quite fascinating, and I’ll be reviewing it on my next blog.

There’s also a Vanity Fair interview with Sophie Brunet, the docudrama video editor who fell in love with him during the filming. She casts Peterson in a light that no-one else can cast him in.

I’ll tell why Peterson is such an enigmatic character. It all comes down to the sociopathic/psychopathic trait that Peterson maybe does or does not have. The district attorney who prosecuted Peterson is on the record describing him as a psychopath. But then, he would think that way, wouldn’t he?

For my latest thriller, Fool Her Once, I read countless books, journals and articles about psychopaths. I’m by no means an expert. Of course not. But I bet I have a better idea about recognizing a psychopath than you do….

In The Meantime…

I’ve been interviewed a couple of times in recent few weeks. Big Thrill Magazine, the publication for International Thriller Writers featured me on one of their June pages, here.

And, then my fellow Camcat author, Madison Lawson ran an interview with me on her blog, here.

Madison’s new thriller, The Registration, will be out from Camcat Books on September 27.

You may pre-order it here. Her thriller has already been optioned for a TV series.

Enjoy some great summer days coming up ahead. At last, it feels like summer in the Northeast. My roses think so, anyway.
